HEMP AS BIOMASS,

OPPORTUNITY FOR IRISH AND

GLOBAL ECONOMY

Mr. Harish Kumar graduated from the National Defense University of Malaysia in 2015 with his Bachelor’s Degree in Maritime Technology. In the same year, he published his research study on the neuropsychiatric effects of Cannabis use in University Putra Malaysia. The study was presented at the International Anatomical and Bi-omedical Scientific Conference held at the university in August 2015. Together with MCare Society Malaysia, an affiliate NGO with HempTech, the study managed to gather 961 respondents from the online survey. In April 2016, he was invited to present his study alongside Dr. Somyot Kittimunkong at an event hosted in Bangkok, Thailand which was attended by 1,500 people.
Neuropsychiatric disorders are caused from the internal conflicts that occur in the human mind. Neuropsychiatry is the field of study where neurology coincides with the human psychology. This combination is responsible for our mental health conditions. Sadly, a global study done by the World Health Organization (WHO) in 2014 showed that 45% from 1.8 billion youths around the world aged 10 to 24 years are diagnosed with mental illness like depression, anxiety, addiction and others. The repercussion of the increased mental health issues is an equivalent increase in social problems, negative behavior and poor health as reported by the United Nations (UN) the same year. So, what is the cause of this increase? And how could we treat this rising morbidity? Modern science explains how long term and emotional memories are stored in the limbic system surrounding the thalamus in the brain. This is where thoughts, emotions, and behavior are regulated. In general, with more negative memories stored in the limbic system, the more likely it is for the body to generate unhealthy action potential and hormones. Additionally, this disposition creates negative thoughts and emotions that perpetuates from the body as energy. Scientists agree that the human psychology plays an important role in the balance of health and life through studies on Placebo effect and others alike. Furthermore, the incredible capability of emotions and thoughts to build an individual’s reality is elucidated in the “Law of Attraction”. Our reality is dependent on our psychological health, yet there is no effective and safe treatment available today for mental health problems. Antipsychotics and antidepressants are the common medication prescribed by doctors for such ailments, but it could cause diverse side-effects including death. Limited knowledge on the complete human psychology leaves a barrier in modern science. However, ancient civilizations all over the world documented how “chakras” form the psychological body and produce energy in the form of “auras”. At the same time, medical texts like the Shen Nung Benchau Jing from ancient China mentioned that the Cannabis plant is able to treat psychological problems effectively. It was only recently that modern science began to explore the potential behind the active compounds Delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and Cannabinoids (CBD) found in the Cannabis plant for human health. The discovery of the endo-cannabinoid system by Dr. Raphael Mechoulam which consists of the Cannabinoid receptors one and two (CB1 and CB2) changed the perception of how the human mind and body functions. Consuming THC and CBD activates these receptors which promotes healthy homeostasis in the endocrine and autonomic nervous system. CB1 receptors are heavily found in the brain and once activated causes a shift in the frequency of mind from the conscious state Beta to the semi-meditative state Alpha. Besides the rapidly changing technological advancement, environmental conditions and other external factors that are strongly disrupting mental health; internal changes in the human body plays an important role as well. Dr. Eric J. Chaisson, from Harvard University concluded that the human Deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) of life on earth changes with the cycles of the universe. Psychologist Nancy Ann Tappe was the first to study the changes in the generation today that she referred to as “Indigo Children”. Her book elaborates how this generation has grown dominant with the use of the “3rd eye” chakra that emits indigo colored aura. To sum up, this study incorporates how proper use of CBD and THC could elevate mental health conditions together with the evolutionary changes we are experiencing globally to construct an idea of how we could curb this morbidity as well as make the most of the psychological mind.
