THE MEANING OF INTERNATIONAL COMPATIBILITY HEMP LEGISLATION AND HEMP SITUATION IN SLOVENIA

Dr. Marko Flajšman is assistant researcher at Group for agriculture at Biotechnical Faculty, Department of Agronomy, University of Ljubljana. His current field of work is industrial hemp, namely field experiments and breeding.

In the past, hemp (Cannabis sativa L.) had a great economic importance. But 20th century was characterized by extreme considerations and measures against the cultivation of hemp, and that's why it disappeared from agricultural crop rotation. Hemp forms a lot of biomass and is well known as a great consumer of nutrients. Therefore it is important to ensure that soil is fully stocked with nutrients before sowing. Crop rotation, the timing and method of soil manipulation, the timing and method of sowing and harvesting are of great importance for protection of hemp and other crops from weeds, pathogens, pests and diseases, and play important role in preservation and improvement of the structure and fertility of the soil. The lecture will present a crop rotation as a fundament of sustainable agriculture and other aspects of sustainability derived from hemp, which can replace many industrial raw materials of non-sustainable origin. The perception of sustainability is possible only through continuous education, which encourages thinking and behavior in sustainable way among farmers and agricultural professionals as well as among the entire society.

SUSTAINABLE ASPECTS OF THE HEMP (Cannabis sativa L.) CULTIVATION

EU NEEDS UPDATED FUTURE HEMP POLICY

TO ACHIEVE HIGH ECONOMIC OBJECTIVES

Mark Reinders, CEO of HempFlax, Holland, is the new president of the board of directors of the EIHA European Industrial Hemp Association. EIHA, largest EU hemp association
with Mr. Reiders modernized with professional activities for which he also with the EIHA team prepares legal updates.

HempFlax he lead in Oude Pekela (NL) since 1994, focused on the production and processing of locally grown hemp and flax, creating semi-finished and finished products from these renewable resources. In 2012 was founded HempFlax Romania. This furthered our capacity for developing and improving natural fiber products. Today, Hemp Flax is one of the top hemp development and manufacturing in the EU, which cooperates with the world's largest industries.

Under Reiders' EIHA leadership and also its own HempFalax company, Hemp has a broader developmental economic significance, but unfortunately, the EU is still faces legal obstacles.

In 2016, the cultivation area of industrial hemp in Europe covered more than 30,000 ha, three times as much as in 2011. Hemp areas grow along with the demand for fibres and seeds. Hemp fibres are among the strongest and most sustainable natural fibres in the world. They are mainly used in biocomposites for the automotive industry, as insulation

material and for light-weight paper. Almost all European automobile companies already use hemp fibres to reinforce interior automotive parts. Leading hemp processors from the Netherlands, France and Romania present twelve reasons why you should consider using European hemp fibres for automotive applications, Cannabis also occurs in other industries such as food, health, paper, plastic, construction and many other eco-industries. With the changed legislation hemp becomes one of the most powerful economic potentials.

Reinders are looking for modern economic-legal solutions for such a fast growing agri-manufacturing sector with internationally linked EIHA
